The hallmark of the Zoiglbier is the Stern (star) that is hung to invite the town to come on over and 'have a few'. Each point represents something about the beer. There are 3 elements (earth, fire, water) and 3 for the beer (malt, hops, water)
The Zoiglbier tradition and its unique style of brewing dates back to the 15th century (1415, as far as we can tell) but is found today in only 5 towns in Eastern Bavaria. the brewery is the town and the town is the brewery. Everyone has some of their own equipment but shares a centralized brewhouse.

Here in Texas, we do things our own way - and we only have 5 points on the Lone Star (besides, water was repeated). The importance of yeast is also very well known these days. Our star therefore represents Fire, Water, Malt, Hops and Yeast.
